We got rid of our fears and concerns connected to the involvment of young people with disabilities in our international work. In one facet of our project, we conducted comprehensive research involving <strong>young people with disabilities<\/strong> in two countries, Hungary and Norway. The findings highlighted distinct needs based on the type of disability:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-4bd105e elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"4bd105e\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-28433af\" data-id=\"28433af\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-039232a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"039232a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Young People with Mental Disabilities:<\/em><\/span><\/p><ul><li><strong>Unique Worldview:<\/strong> Those with mental disabilities perceive the world differently.<\/li><li><strong>Trust-Based Accompaniment:<\/strong> Preparation and participation necessitate a trustworthy accompanying person, like a family member or a social worker with whom they are in a daily contact.<\/li><li><strong>Reaching the target group:<\/strong> These young people can mostly be reached through institutions, organisations they attend.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-0e57979\" data-id=\"0e57979\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6a3721a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6a3721a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Young People with Physical Disabilities:<\/em><\/span><\/p><ul><li><strong>Openness to Travel:<\/strong> Individuals with physical disabilities exhibit enthusiasm for travel.<\/li><li><strong>Physical Support Requirement:<\/strong> Their support leans more towards physical assistance rather than a protective approach.<\/li><li><strong>Flexible Accompanying Person Identity:<\/strong> The identity of the accompanying person becomes crucial after satisfying the physical needs. The second research initiative comprised an online international study mapping the intentions of <em><strong>organisations engaged in international mobility projects<\/strong> <\/em>regarding the inclusion of young people with disabilities:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Limited Interest:<\/strong> Organisations generally exhibit minimal interest in involving young people with disabilities due to an overwhelming participant load and complex workloads in their programme.<\/li><li><strong>Planning Challenges:<\/strong> Planning for the participation of young individuals with disabilities is intricate, requiring advanced consideration due to the necessity of soliciting special needs costs in advance.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-5cb4cad elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"5cb4cad\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-2707529\" data-id=\"2707529\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0362a57 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"0362a57\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b2bce98 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b2bce98\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Insights from Implemented Youth Exchanges<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b8c1250 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b8c1250\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In executing three youth exchanges with both mentally and physically disabled participants, we gained valuable insights:<\/p><ul><li><p><em>Integrated Projects:<\/em><\/p><ul><li><strong>Advocacy for Integration:<\/strong> Fully supporting integrated projects, we believe that the true impact is realized when young people with disabilities are seamlessly integrated into the group.<\/li><li><strong>Mutual Learning:<\/strong> Both those with and without disabilities benefit from mutual learning experiences, serving as a valuable resource in nonformal learning events.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><p><em>Role Adaptability:<\/em><\/p><ul><li><strong>Dynamic Support Dynamics:<\/strong> Depending on the level of physical disability, participants quickly assume supportive roles as group dynamics deepen.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><p><em>Accompanying Persons:<\/em><\/p><ul><li><strong>Adaptable Roles:<\/strong> After their supported participants integrate to the group, accompanying persons can play adaptable roles, offering valuable resources to the organizing team while maintaining a focus on supporting the young person.<\/li><li><strong>Emotional Support for Mental Disabilities:<\/strong> Emotional and mental support is essential for mentally disabled participants, particularly as many are first-time travelers.<\/li><li><strong>Vulnerability and Motivation:<\/strong> Once mentally disabled participants feel comfortable, they become highly motivated and active, yet remain vulnerable due to limited awareness of their physical barriers, they can overload themselves with experiences and tasks.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><p><em>Challenges and Recommendations:<\/em><\/p><ul><li><strong>Financial Support Insufficiency:<\/strong> Relying solely on financial support is insufficient to boost the participation of young people with disabilities.<\/li><li><strong>Capacity Building for Youth Workers:<\/strong> Youth workers, experienced in nonformal learning in an international context, lack the necessary tools to effectively work with disabled young people.<\/li><li><strong>Synergy in Collaboration:<\/strong> It is crucial to go beyond merely informing organizations working with disabled youth about program opportunities. More efforts should be made to sensitize organisations working with international mobility projects.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>b. New forums should be opened for these organisations to meet those who work with youth with disabilities.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>c. Integration should be the main message in the involvement of young people with disabilities.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>d. The request for financial support for special needs should be handled with a new approach to ease the involvement of young people with disabilities in a later stage of a project, after the application is sent.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><ul><li><strong>The launch and acceptance of the European Disability Card should be urged by the Erasmus+ program coordinating authorities.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><strong>More visible distinction should appear on the online surfaces of the programme about the availability of these project for young people with disabilities.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f703d11 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"f703d11\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d18b740 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d18b740\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><a href=\"#thoughts\">Final thoughts<\/a><\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-857bed2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"857bed2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Young people have their dreams and plans regardless if they have disability or not. However, life quality of young people with disabilities and their families in the 2 involved countries are very different. We, as youth organisations dealing with young people through international programmes, have the same possibilities thanks to the Erasmus+ programme, and we can offer the same opportunities to young people with or without disabilities.
